CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class will provide High School students with 0.5 credits of Language Arts with a Writing focus. Students may wish to pair this class with the World Literature class.
Prerequisites: Firm grasp on grammar (parts of speech, punctuation, etc.); at least one year of MS English highly recommended
The main focus of this class will be as follows:
1) The class will put out 1-3 publications during the time of this class. The magazines are called PATH Magazine. Recent issues can be found here. Students will write one or more articles. They will learn writing, editing, teamwork, and other valuable skills as they lead the publication of this magazine.
2) Students will learn how to write a devotional, and through this process grow in their writing, editing, and technical skills. They will also continue the process of purposeful writing, learning to integrate their faith with their emerging writing skills. Students will write 2 devotions and together we will publish PATH Devotions, a one time publication.
3) Students will learn a variety of professional letter writing techniques including Persuasive & Bad News letters, plus tackling formatting, graphic highlighting, space management, and some desktop publishing
Throughout the class the main focus will be on incorporating unique but useful proofreading techniques, exploration and use of transitional expressions, and incorporating graphic highlighting.
Above all, this class seeks to instill in young writers the following: The Reader is an author's most important focus. Writing clearly, with great purpose, is a noble task we should all develop over the course of our lifetimes.

TUTOR
Some of Todd's favorite authors are Francis Chan, Tim Keller, Billy Graham, and David Platt. He is active with the Love Justice organization, Compassion International, and world missions organizations. Todd and his family travelled to Thailand on Christian mission in 2013 to share the Gospel with unreached peoples. There, his family served with a Christian & Missionary Alliance church, a native Campus Crusade missionary, and a Discipleship Training School through YWAM. His dissertation in 2013 featured a study on servant leadership and justice within the context of a Christian denomination. The goal was to provide guidance on how to hire, train, equip leaders (paid and unpaid) to use servant leadership to help restore our broken world in Jesus name. Along with his family, he owned and operated a missional business (a resort) in the Bemidji, MN area that funded missions to unreached people groups. While in Bemidji, Todd and his family attended a Evangelical Covenant church.
Professionally, Todd teaches MBA/MOL classes and general business courses at the college level. He is married to Angela and has 5 kids who are homeschooled. Todd also helps direct PATH with the team of tutors and parent volunteers each Monday.
